To tell you the truth, I didn't know it was going to be on the cover or singled out, so it's been a bit of a surprise. When I took it into the museum a couple of weeks ago, and set it on the table with the other OGG work, the curators literally did a doubletake--artwork, me, artwork, me. One finally said, "excuse me, but is that a self-portrait?" Her partner said, "Of course it is, silly." This is one of the coolest things i've ever seen! Love the colors. Thanks for sharing your how-to info, i have just taken some babysteps into casting (using sand) and am very intrigued by how you did this. I had hoped to enter, but didn't get round to it - wish I had. Now I see what you were doing when you got the smoothing formula from Hugh.
