No martinis for me
September 29, 2008 by cynthia
Well, that just shows what *I* know.
The Bombay Sapphire martini glass prizes were awarded and, as usual, the judges and I are about 10,000 miles apart. (and no, I didn’t enter)
But this me-and-the-judges-don’t-agree stuff is getting to be a habit, which doesn’t bode well for my own performance in art competitions. (I’ve only entered two,* which isn’t a valid sample for trending, but in the second I gave the judges a choice of three pieces and they loved the one I KNEW they’d hate. In the first I never even came close.)
Only thing to do: Forget the competitions and do what *I* like. As long it works for me (and somebody wants to buy it, not that anybody’s going to when the Dow is down 777 points), who cares?
Right?

*Unless you count the Fayette County Fire Prevention Poster Contest I entered in the fifth grade. First prize was a ride on a fire truck in the Lexington something or other night parade. I won that one. The firemen seemed disappointed that I wasn’t more excited, but if they’d looked under my cool and sophisticated exterior they would have seen I was beside myself at being up so far past my bedtime.

so which did you chose? my favorite was ‘of the vine’.
Hmmm. Interesting–they appear to have introduced NEW entries, or at least entries that weren’t shown in the original website, into the contest. I don’t recognize some of these, but I was talking about the original entries.
I should have included a link to the earlier post, which also showed a much broader range of competitors. None of mine were in the awards webpage. http://www.morganica.com/bloggery/2008/09/10/holy-sapphirability (and click on the Bombay link–you have to go through a bunch of “yes i’m of age” nonsense)
Anyway, my favorites according to the rules (i.e., it’s got to be a comfortable drinking glass) were, in order:
Lake Baikal (Korea)
Ramify (Thailand)
Infinite (Finland)
But if you just wanted an all-out gaga-gorgeous buy-it-in-a-heartbeat glass you didn’t plan to drink from? Quiver, from Taiwan.
