Ouch

Cleaned out the garage. REALLY messy garage. Filled up a 12 foot-long dumpster to the brim.
Everything aches. I think even my HAIR aches.
Thank heavens for my sister and her family. They were down at the Japanese Gardens, caught wind of my project and zoomed over to help. For hours we hauled, demolished (useless hulking cabinets that took up space but wouldn’t store anything), swept, and toted, hefted, carried, lugged.
Now I’ve got a pristine garage with a lot of stuff on the floor, waiting for me to create storage for it. So I’m finally ready for the fun stuff: Planning and building in workbenches and storage to make this a real casting shop.
Well, that and a place to stick the car…
(And thanks, Suzanne, Jerald, Morgan, Aubrey, and Lily.)

Ok, Ok… tell me the truth. The Dot put you up to this. She said “Clean out YOUR garage and maybe Gary will be so impressed he’ll clean out OUR garage.” I’m truly right on this, huh?
Now, Gary, do you REALLY think I’d do that? Surely you know me better than that!
(Note to Dot: Did it work?)
now is the perfect time to epoxy coat the floor. i wish i had done so before loading up my 4 car garashop with stuff.
You know, I keep thinking about that. Other thing I’ve been looking at is that high-impact floor matting, about $2.75sf…but then I think about what happens when the kiln melts the floor…
Just put a concrete paver pad under the kiln area…do the rest in the high-impact flooring. Unless your kiln is sitting right on the floor (!) I doubt if the floor temperature gets above 150F. What I’ve got over my pseudo-wood are four 1″ pavers, a sheet of fire-resistant wall board, and then the kiln stand. The floor never even gets warm.
