Come to the museum…

I wanted to invite anyone in the PDX area (or anyone willing to brave the airlines and come out for a visit) to stop off and see the Oregon Glass Guild’s exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Craft. I helped organize the show, and it looks pretty good, if I do say so myself. It’s complimenting an absolutely fabulous showing of Andy Paiko’s work, downstairs, and well worth a trip for any dedicated glassist.

The guild is also doing demos for the next five Saturday afternoons, including one on pate de verre by yours truly. Here’s the schedule:
Dec. 5 (today) 12:00 to 2:00 PM: Rich Hawthorne, Reverse gilding on glass
Dec. 12 12:00 to 2:00 PM: Carli Schultz Kruze, Beadmaking at the torch
Dec. 19 1:00 to 4:00 PM: Cynthia Morgan, Pate de verre
Dec. 26, 1:00 to 4:00 PM: Serena Smith, sketching with glass and torch
January 2, 1:00 to 4:00 PM: Donna LaPlante, kilnforming glass
January 9, 1:00 to 4:00 PM: Raphael Schnepf, Airbrushing/painting on glass

These are all terrifically skilled artists who give great demo, so you’re missing a bet if you don’t see them. (And you get a chance to explore the museum’s gift shop, which has one of the nicest collections of affordable craft I’ve ever seen).

    I adore Raphael Schnepf’s work. But ya know, I just now realized the name was Raphael. Somehow it has been registering in my brain as Racheal and I have given a female orientation to the work. Now I am having to do a readjustment in my perspective. OK, so which is it, male or female?

    Raphael’s (Raf) is definitely a guy, and a very cool one. As a matter of fact, my houseguest and I are watching one of his videos right now…

    Check out Raf’s web site. He was a San Francisco rock poster artist in the 60’s. Did art work for most of the big time bands of that time. He also teaches air brush classes at his home in Gladstone Oregon through the year. His work includes air brush, painting, illustration and kiln forming.
